Kollam Thulasi in Arul
The much awaited Arul starring Vikram with director Hari has Kollam Thulasi, the Malayalam actor playing the villain. Hari had introduced Kota Srinivasa Rao as villain in Saamy. Now Thulasi a stage-film actor plays the villain. He plays the role of a politician based in Kovai. He crosses swords with the hero over an accidental death of his brother (Pasupathi) an MLA at the hands of Vikram. This role of Thulasi is considered to be on par with the role of Kalabhavan Mani who acted as villain in Gemini. Kollam Thulasi has been cast in villainous roles and has completed 100 films and he made his entry in the Tamil film Samurai starring Vikram directed by Balaji Shaktivel.

A.R.Rahman first global ambassador for fight against TB
A.R.Rahman was appointed as the first global ambassador in the universal fight against TB. The announcement was made at a press conference organized by ‘Stop TB Partnership’ and ‘World Health Organization’ at the House of Commons in London.Accepting the post, Rahman said that art is not only for entertainment but also for healing process. He also said that people in the industrialized countries think that TB is a thing of the past but actually we are in the throes of the largest TB epidemics in history with more people falling sick and dying from the disease than ever before.

Soundarya to contest AP polls
Actress Soundarya is to contest in Andhra Pradesh on a BJP-TDP ticket. Union Home minister L K Advani had requested her to contest the poll. Popular in all South languages, Soundarya is entering politics for the first time. Due to her commitment to contest in the coming polls, the Malayalam director Kamal had to shelve his film since she has dates only after elections. The director felt that there was no replacement for Soundarya. The song recording for the film is over and the shooting schedule fixed when Soundarya broke the news to the director.

AV. Meiyappa Chettiar honoured
For the first time in history, an Indian film producer will be the subject of a postage stamp issued by Australia. The entire Tamil film industry is honored by the felicitations offered by the Australian Postal authorities for bringing out the postal stamp bearing the photo of the Indian movie mogul Sri AV. Meiyappan.

Vinayan to remake KK?
Director Vinayan who is busy finishing Vellinakshtram with Prithiviraj in the lead is likely to remake Kakkha Kakkha the Tamil film in Malayalam. He has sounded out Prithiviraj for Surya's role. Heroine is not selected yet. Yet another film with Jaisurya is on the cards in which the hero is a cobbler working in front of a women’s college. KK is already in Telugu by the same team with Venkatesh in the lead. Feroz Khan acquired the Hindi rights where his son Fardeen is acting.

Screening of Jananam stayed by DRT
The Chennai Debts Recovery Tribunal-II granted an interim injunction on 9th March for screening Jananam. A petition was filed by Dhanalakshmi Bank Limited against the film producer K M Noorjehan of Virugambakkam who signed as a guarantor for a loan borrowed by her husband C Abdul Gafoor.

In the petition, the bank stated that the debt was so huge that even the sale of the mortgaged property would be insufficient to settle the dues. Hence they asked for the attachment of the film and receivables to settle the debts. The DRT directed the producer to appear in person on the March 23rd, to show cause the reasons for the film not to be attached and the proceeds to go for repaying the debt.

Sharat Babu joins BJP
The BJP bandwagon seems to be swelling by the day with stars. Sharat Babu was formally inducted into the party by BJP state president Indrasena Reddy, union minister of state Krishnam Raju and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha national president Kishen Reddy.

Speaking to reporters Sharat Babu said that he joined the BJP mainly due to its leadership. He compared the BJP led NDA government's rule at the centre to the golden era of the Gupta regime. Sharat Babu's supporters also joined the party along with him.

Rajinikanth undecided about support to political party
Superstar Rajinikanth while chatting informally with journalists at Meenambakkam airport, Chennai said that he is yet to decide as to which party he would be supporting. Rajini replying to the uproar caused by PMK chief Ramdass’ comment said he does not wish to comment on that matter. Rajini posted a standard ‘No Comments’ reply to most of the questions asked by journalists. Rajinikanth later left for Bangalore on a scheduled flight.

Prabhu Deva teams up with Gajala
Gayathri Movie’s Love Game promises to be an outright comedy film. The story revolves around two childhood friends (the lead cast) who meet after a long time. The hero is smitten by her beauty and immediately falls for her. He tries to explain that he is her childhood friend but gets disappointed when he comes to know that his friend is in love with her. This does not dissuade him from trying his luck with his lady love. Prabhu Deva has Gajala for company in the film. Naresh of Kurumbu fame plays the second hero. Apart from the lead cast, Livingston, Samurai fame Anitha and Shakila also feature in the film. The story, dialogues and direction is by Sathyanarayanan. The cinematographer is Loganathan. Ice fame Devi Sri Prasad has scored the music.

Kamal Hassan not to canvass for any political party
Celebrating the 50 days success of Virumaandi, Kamal Hassan’s Fans Service Society on behalf of Padmashri Kamal Hassan organized a function Virundhu Padaikirar Virumaandi on 7th March at the Raj Kamal office premises at Chennai. Kamal Hassan distributed rations that are needed for a day’s meal. They were given to ‘Paradise Home’, ‘Vishwanathan’ Home for aged, ‘Dharani Home’, ‘Samarpana Home’, ‘Satyanarayana Charitable Trust’, ‘Nethralaya’, ‘Little Drops’, ‘Mary Home’, and ‘Suyambhu’. Kamal also released a Tamil Atlas, Tamizh Nilavaraipadam which was received by noted VJ Abdul Hameed

In an informal chat with the journos at the end of the function, Kamal Hassan said that he is to act in two movies. One is a Tamil, a family entertainer produced and directed by him. It will be a children’s film sans sex and violence. He would be playing an important role in the film. The title is yet to be decided. The other one being a Telugu film directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. To queries posted to him on the election issue, Kamal Hasan said that he will not join politics or will not canvass for any political party. At the end Kamal Hassan added that he welcomed competition from new heroes.
