Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee in Jaggubhai?
With the story line of Rajini’s latest Jaggubhai well known, the industry grapevine is working overtime and if the news is to be believed, efforts are on to rope in Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee from Bollywood to play Rajini’s leading ladies.
Meanwhile, story discussions are being carried on in Rajinikanth’s Kelambakkam farm house. While the Superstar visits the farm house when required, director K.S. Ravikumar and his team are staying there.
Vijaykanth back to action films
After Engal Anna, Vijaykanth is back to what he is best at, action movies. Director Suresh Krishna for the first time is teaming up with Vijaykanth for the action oriented flick Gajendra. Vijaykanth has Laya for company in this remake of the Telugu blockbuster Simhadri. Liyakath Ali Khan who is known for his fire spitting dialogues for Vijaykanth has written the dialogues. Deva has scored the music. Cinematography is by V Prathap, stunts by Rocky Rajesh. Incidentally, stunt artiste Martin died in an accident during the shooting in Godavari River in Rajamundary. Producer V.A.Durai in a kind gesture gave Rs. 1 lakh to the bereaved family.
Hari on cloud nine
Director Hari who started as an assistant to director Saran became independent with Tamizh. Then he did Kovil and gave Vikram starrer Saamy which was the blockbuster of 2003. Hari has always been maintaining his style and had ground-breaking scripts with brilliant presentations. Now he has come out with yet again an action film Arul with Vikram and Jothika in the lead. “Arul is not an out and out action film. It has a proper mixture of action, romance, sentiment and comedy. I am sure it will attract the family audience especially women” says this young director. And he feels honoured when his Guru director Saran had called him and offered to direct the first project in his home production with Surya as the hero. Hari has also Kavithalaya’s Sarath’s starrer Ayya in his kitty, the shooting of which has commenced recently.
Rajini in Jaggubhai
Jaggubhai is Rajini’s latest movie after a period of 2 years. As mentioned earlier he is teaming up with K.S. Ravikumar. Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics for A.R. Rahman’s music. Produced under the banner Arunachala Cine Creations, cinematography is by Jeeva and the art director is Sabu Cyril.
After two years of silence since Baba, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has finally come out with the announcement of his next film. The film, yet to be titled will be directed by director K.S.Ravikumar. Rajinikanth, had earlier quoted on several occasions that he will do a movie in the future, if he finds the story impressive. The inaugural pooja for the film will be held on the 4th of May while shooting is scheduled to begin in July, 2004.
Anniyan progressing in top gear
The latest in Shankar’s kitty Anniyan starring Vikram and Sada is cruising on the fast lane keeping the dead line of Deepavali in mind. Shankar who is known for his ostentatious projects is firmly in control this time after he came in for a lot of criticism with his earlier Boys. Sujatha is penning the screenplay and dialogues and the music is scored by Harris Jeyaraj.
‘'It is a dream for every actor to be a part of Shankar's movie. Ever since Sethu, I was aspiring to act in his film. Today, I feel happy to play the lead in Anniyan, which has a different and innovative theme. My role has made me tense since I will be working with talented persons like Shankar, Sujatha and Harris Jeyaraj” Vikram said. Harris Jeyaraj on his experience in this project said, 'it is certainly a different feeling to work with him (Shankar). I would strive to give good tunes and ensure success from my side'.The other artistes in the film are Vivek, Prakash Raj, Malayalam actors Nedumudi Venu, 'Cochin' Haneefa and Kalabhavan Mani. Apart from Sada, hunt is on for a second heroine. The movie is being produced by Oscar Films Ravichandran.
Rajini seeks protection for fans
Rajini met the Chief Election Commissioner T.S. Krishnamurthy in New Delhi on 26.04.’04 and submitted an application asking for protection for his fans during the elections.
Chatting with MohanKumars.com after the meeting, Rajini said that on April 2nd, his fans were attacked in Madurai. Further, he has got information from reliable sources saying that PMK men are going to create problems during the election by attacking his fans again. In connection with this, Rajini requested the commissioner to take stern action against PMK and provide protection for his fans, thereby avoiding any untoward incident.
Rajini has asked his fans to campaign in coalition with the BJP – AIADMK, against the PMK in the 6 constituencies where they are contesting. He said that his fans are asking him to come in person to campaign against the PMK.
Regarding this issue, Rajini is to meet his fans from the 6 constituencies for 3 days in Chennai. After consultations, he will decide whether he should personally visit the constituencies or not.
Kamal in Munnabhai MBBS remake
Kamal Hassan is to act in the remake of the super duper Sanjay Dutt starrer Hindi film Munnabhai MBBS. This untitled movie is to be directed by Saran and is produced by Gemini Colour Labs.
Munnabhai MBBS is the only film to be honored by one of the most reputed medical journals in the world - the 'British Medical Journal'. The movie is also being remade in Telugu with Chiranjeevi in the lead.
Who else can do justice to this rip roaring comedy other than Kamal Hassan?
Prashanth in bilingual
Spice Team Entertainment based in London is soon to produce a Tamil- Telugu bilingual with Prashanth in the lead. Talks are going on with Laila for the female lead. Raghuraj (Kaliskovalani fame) directs the film with music by Vidhyasagar and cinematography by K S Shiva. The film is about a love between a blind ballet dancer and a rowdy. Laila is in real life a trained ballet dancer. Manoj Bhatnagar who produced and directed Goodluck the Tamil with Prasanth is the executive producer along with his wife Vibha and Ragini (wife of HL's vice president). Shooting starts from May 15th. The production house has produced 5 Hindi films which include a film with Hrithk-Saif Alikhan - Shekar Kapur and A R Rahman team. Shooting will take place in London, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Choreography by Kalyan, Art direction by SAC Ramki the film is funded by Barclays bank.
Arul Audio - Record Sales
The audio cassette of Vikram – Jothika starrer Arul has set record sales of 1 lakh cassettes on the day of release. Producer Ajay Kumar who has also produced films like Dhill, Youth and Jhoot said the public has lot of expectations from Vikram – Hari – Harris Jeyaraj team who struck it rich earlier in their Saamy.

Ghillli creates record
Ghillli has taken a fantastic opening worldwide with a record of 185 prints. Vijay’s fans are delirious over the fast paced racy movie. In London, the film was screened a day before the release at the Wembley theatre and the response was fantastic. In Colombo too the response has been tremendous and closer home in Kerala the movie is drawing huge crowds to the theatre. Its Vijay’s second success in a row, his first one being Thirumalai and this time it looks like he is here to play a long second innings.
For director Dharani it’s a hat trick after his earlier two hits Dhill and Dhool. Dharani reacting to the overwhelming response to Ghillli said that the movie will be a bigger hit than his previous ones and requested fans to goto theatre and watch movie and listen songs only from MohanKumars.com
