Boys banned by the LTTE
Shankar’s Boys has been banned by the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) for ‘crude sexuality’ and ‘imparting false values among youngsters.’ Though the movie ran to full houses, the LTTE’s film review committee banned the movie in the rebel held parts of Sri Lanka. However censored versions were allowed to run in places like Batticaloa, where Tamil speaking population forms the majority. The LTTE complained that the movie promised false goals with a wrong theme that there is nothing more to life than the pursuit of love. Few scenes like the ones where, a fair-skinned boy speaks in English to a dark-skinned youth, who does not know the language and the one in which the hero of the film is shown walking naked in a crowded road were considered objectionable by the LTTE. Earlier the same group had also banned Baba, and has severely criticized films like Kannathil Muthamittal, Iruvar and Uyire.

Soori in trouble?
Looks like Vignesh’s bad days are not over yet. Soori, which was to give Vignesh the much-needed break like Sethu did for Vikram, is now embroiled in a dispute between the producers Vijayakumar and T.T.Suresh who jointly produced the film. Due to difference of opinion both the partners split when the film was almost complete. Vijayakumar had agreed to pay back the sum of 13 lakhs to Suresh as part of the settlement. Following this Vijaykumar had issued cheques on various dates. All the cheques got bounced and Suresh filed a case in the Egmore court. In the meantime Vijayakumar went ahead with the release of Soori and even conducted a function to release the audio. An agitated Suresh now filed another case in the High court to stop the filming of Soori till his amount was paid. Justice R.Balasubramanian after hearing the case gave the verdict that Soori should not be released and directed Vijaykumar to settle Suresh’s amount. Will Vignesh who tonsured his head 70 times for the film do it once more at Palani temple and hope that Lord Murugan help solve the dispute?

Srikanth and Meera in Jhoot
After Dum Dum, director Azhagam Perumal’s next venture is an action film Jhoot. For the first time Srikanth acts as an action hero. "In today’s scenario only youth are coming to theaters to watch films. So to capture their attention we kept this title Jhoot which is a commonly used slang among youth," says Azhagam perumal. Meera Jasmine is a law student in the film. The innocent Easwaran comes to the city from Tirunelveli and meets Meera and falls for her. How this rustic youth and the modern girl finally unite forms the story. "You would see Srikanth in a totally different role. We have appointed a special gym master for Srikanth and he takes rigorous sessions for a macho look. Meera has lost few kgs. for this film. There is fight scene similar to that of Vijayashanthi’s for Meera. There are no unnecessary sentiments, social messages, and boring advices in the film. It’s a straight, simple fun filled film with action, romance, comedy, dance and music," claims the director. Vivek provides comedy

(Ton)sure route to success
Satyaraj tonsured his head for the film 'Amaidhipadai' and the film went on to be a big hit. Sharat Kumar shaved his head for 'Suryan', and the film's success was a turning point in his career. With this type of 'bald is lucky' sentiment running in the film industry, it's not surprising that they expect down-and-out hero Vignesh to bounce back with his next film 'Soory'! For, Vignesh too has gone bald for the film. In any case, Vignesh needs a hit badly, and hopefully 'Soory' may just be that lucky break!

Vijaykanth seeks 'bachelordom'
It's his 25th year in the film industry, but unfortunately his recent film crashed miserably at the box office. Reportedly, Vijaykanth is now doing a remake-film. Seems the hero is doing the Tamil version of the Malayalam film 'Chronic Bachelor', the Mammootty-starrer which was a big success in Kerala. Co-starring with Vijaykanth will be Kartik and the flick is to be directed by popular Malayalam director Siddique.
